CIRKEL are a Scottish organic bedding company. They follow a circular economy business model, and are looking to find solutions for their products when they reach the end of their lives.
A repurposing project, giving used CIRKEL cotton bedding a second life.
The proposal for a 5 week project was to build a materials library, exploring the possibilities of waste cotton: logging the processes, quantities and product development proposals.
Using the traditional methods of crochet, dyeing and screen printing, build a modular blanket / rug system which can be added to over time. Individual pieces (below) can be created to differing heights, weights and density to create tactile, changeable designs. Pieces are tacked together with a length of cotton strip, meaning that the pieces can be patched together in various ways to the taste of the owner.
There is the potential to create three dimensional crochet shapes: acting as furniture. These pieces can be built into the surrounding floor piece, or tacked down, to be moved around the room.
